One quart is not sufficient.

Another 1/2qt will meet the 1.5qt specifications then? I asked because the DIY only had one bottle of fluid.

the user manual for my vehicle, 1998 E300D TurboDiesel, also covers some of the other W210 vehicles of the day. There are different fill volumes for different engine options. The Diesel in my manual calls for 1.1 US quarts. Jim

You definitely need more than one quart. How much exactly you need (more than 1 quart) is really not that important because you stop adding fluid when it overflows out of the fill hole.

As for capacity, different models use different differentials so the capacity could be as low as 1.1 liters (almost 1.2 quarts), 1.3 liters to as high as 1.6 liters.

Your 1997 E420 uses 1.3 liters (about 1.4 quarts).

That's 1.1 liters, not quarts.

I just did my differential fluid a couple of days ago. What are the mileage intervals?
