Boot / Trunk release switch not working.

Anybody out there that can help?
My remote key and the pressing of trunk lock both work fine.
The release switch light is on when trunk is open, but switch does not work.
My guess possibly its the switch, so i went out and bought one from MB.
Only problem is need knowledge of how to remove the wood plating surrounding the gear shifter ( E230 1997 Auto )so i can replace switch.
I would appreciate any help on this one as I dont want to damage it.

patrick, how did this work out for you? do you have the switch part number, can it be ordered from another place online, and how much was it?

trunck release stopped working, keyfob works w/delay

I noticed when switch inside worked and w/keyfob, there started to be a delay of 3-7 seconds before the truck would open or even unlock. When I unlock car, I wiat a few seconds, then I hear a "click" from the back, then I am able to manually open trunk. If car has been unlocked for a while, no delay with manual operation or keyfob.

Now interior button has stopped working altogther, delay contunes when you try to use keyfob or open manually.

Finally, I pulled switch back (eventhough it stopped working), and it fell off. Looks like I need to get new switch (or glue back on?) and also figure out how to get trunk open from inside car and stop delay problem

The click is OK

When you're hearing the clunk in the back but the lid does not open, it's just the gasket sticking a little. If you haven't opened the trunk in a few days, this will happen.

For a pictorial on how to get to the switch, look at the youtube videos in the sticky sections -- there's a series showing disassembly of the center console. Just wha tyou need

Interior trunk switch

As stated above, the trunk switch lights when the trunk is open, and the key remote opens the trunk, however, the interior switch does not open the trunk. Were you able to address this issue by replacing the switch? Would appreciate a response.
Thanks.

It may not be the switch. Look to the central locking section within the owners manual. It may be the way the trunk was locked via the key!! It does get confusing!

Switch

Had a MB Tech do some diagnostics. The switch is defective. To replace the component is around $400. Can't justify that expense as the keyfob operates the trunk.

I agree with Plutoe ...just a few days ago I couldn't open my trunk

not with the fob nor with the key nor by pressing the button on the console.

Turns out My brother used the car used the key to open the trunki and unknowingly pulled out the key in valet mode position, therefore the trunk was totally disabled.

I grabbed the manual put the key in neutral position and right away it worked.

Just worth looking into. There are 4 functions depending on what position you pull the key out. lock onlock neutral and valet . Valet disables the trunk.
