I sent my 2001 e320 (45K miles) into the dealership last week due to an Abs malfunction showing up on instrument cluster. Another issue that I was having was a jerking speedometer needle, and an unpredictable volume control knob on the radio. The service department also replaced 2 engine mounts, 1 transmission mount, also the instrument cluster was replaced, the radio was replaced, the stop switch causing the malfunction was replaced, Left lower steering nuckle joint was replaced, Both front lower ball joints were replaced. Thankfully I still have another 28 months of CPO warantee, so the repair bill was nothing, and I was provided a loaner car for the entire 5 day period of the repair. I did have the tires rotated/balanced $29USD, but they didn't mention anything about a front end alignment. Shouldn't the dealer have aligned the front end (at my expense), since the suspension was repaired? Also, the invoice/receipt has no pricing, or labor totals. The letters N/C ( no charge) show up in the colums instead. So my final question is..Had I not had the CPO warrantee, approx how much would this repair have cost me at the dealer (Mercedes Palm Beach)? I believe that the warrantee cost me an extra $1800USD for 3 years/36K miles, at the Mercedes dealership. I have a feeling that I'll get my moneys worth on this warrantee. Thanks again to all of you Mercedes brainiacs!
well over $2500,so you are indeed ahead of the game.warranty wise,However if you bought the car at dealer price several months ago you over paid for what the car is worth,so they owe you,big time.you are probably even stevens.
ohlord
I think $2500 would be for cluster alone.
Have a friend. Years ago he bough new Ford Taurus and purchased $900 extended warranty.
The $12,000 car in 4 years generated $15,000 in repairs.
Deal of his life.
still nothing that I would look forward. I enjoy driving my Mercedeses, not delivering them to shops.
Those two guys whose extended warranty paid for itself don't make up for the thousands whose don't. A warranty is backed by an insurance company and in the grand scheme of things, the insurance companies always win. OTOH, if the warranty gives you piece of mind, then go for it. I have never bought a warranty nor have I ever had a car that needed one.
