Okay I got these warnings maybe a week ago or so, turned the car off/on....went away for maybe a week; then back on again;
So I bought the brake switch this past Sat. from dealer for about $20 and fog lamp bulb for $10 waiting to see if I get the warning again then I give it a look see...
Question: Any tips or suggestion to replace, I've heard that cleaning contacts help, but for $20 bucks, I'd just replace it. I hear its a fearly simple job, but anything I should be on the look out for?
ABS,BAS,ESP Warnings have all returned....This time has power loss
Notice when I was leave from work yesterday, car had power loss, thought maybe trans was a little cold since its the 30's-40's NYC and I didn't let car warm up to long. Anyhow I, turned car off and back on and it seemed okay.
This morning while coming in.. notice a bit of power loss, checked codes and nothing then while I was searching for parking the stupid lights kicked in again.
Wasn't able to run codes while they were up (Trying to find damn parking), turned car off/on x2 no more warning......
Q: Do you normally have loss of power on accel. with faulty brake switch..?or is it the battery? or both?
you install the new switch?
did you make sure it is adjusted to the same length as the old one?
did you reset the system by turning the steering wheel all the way left to right lock to lock a few times.
Check the brake light sockets for corrosion and that the bulbs are well seated.
if voltage drops below about 10.5 volts the abs will will shut off and that will trigger the bas/esp and they will go off
bas/esp off will result in cut in power as a fail safe.also it will feel like you have to press the pedal harder in order to get going. So you need to check your battery.
one of the above should fix it.
Didn't do switch yet...because I haven't gotten the warnings in about 3wks. No warning yesterday...but did feel loss of power. Got warnings today.....still have new switch in my car. Haven't checked battery...still at work
Finally did the brake switch, pretty straight forward...just a PIA to get to!! My back is still hurting car still seemed a little sluggish..wondering if I got a bad tank of gas or something? I did notice the old switch was decompressed a bit more than the new one.
When you press the switch on the old one, it will go in one notch and if you press harder it would go in another. I guess pieces were worn on the inside.
we'll see how it holds up!
So does anyone know how much it would have cost to have this done?
Seems like on the "other" forum I recall someone saying it was like $150, including "diagnostic" time and the part as well as the labor and the "road test" after the repair. Plus being without the car for half a day.
Oh, well, service technicians need to pay for their boats too, right?

now?never had the battery symbol on ,correct?Thank God I don't need that vision stuff link
Keep us posted about the sluggishness it could just be that the trans needs to adapt to the change.
did you get the whole under dash removed or did you try the diy with it just pulled down?
If off then someday if your evap sensor goes it will be old stuff for you to r/r it.
And after crawling under the dash, plugs and oil changes will be a walk in the park.
who knows anymore what the dealer would charge when one of our members got quoted a GRAND for plugs on a E320 !!!!!!!!!!!!
Never had the battery symbol correct. I just removed 5 screws 2 on left side near obd reader, and 2 right beneath the ignition, and one screw near foot well=(i think its Ac blower for foot well area); and pulled tabs around bottom of stearing wheel=( to release material/felt lining) and just pulled down to get area. Unlocked tab to right to release obd reader, so I wouldn't have to put to much stress on the wire.
