Replacing Rear Brake Light Bulb

I have a 2002 E320 Wagon, and I can not quite figure out how to replace the rear right brake light bulb. This bulb is mounted on the rear door of the station wagon. I am not sure how to access this. For those who know this car, I removed the two screws on the felt part of the door and I ended up not being able to put that part back. Any help is appreciated.

the brake bulb is

in the body portion, the back up light and the one running fog bulb in the left lamp socket in the hatch are the bulbs located in the hatch.Only one bulb for the fog, since it's red they don't want people to get confused in the fog and think you have your brakes on.
http://www.analogstereo.com/pdf/om/m...anual_2002.pdf
load and roll down to about page 300 or so for all the bulb info.
also note page 296 or abouts for the info if you ever get stuck in park or loose power due to a dead battery and need to shift it into neutral to be towed.
Have fun with the new toy!!!!

You can get brighter bulbs for most of the lamps at danielsternlighting.com
headlight osram 65watt rally bulbs longer life then oem and way brighter.

Thanks, one more Q

The manual states: I need to remove the tailgate trim panel to access bulbs 3 and 4...So the bulbs are not really on the tailgate, but on the trim panel? Or are they talking about the trim panel on the tailgate...I guess I made a mistake I am trying to replace the back-up light...

The bulb is directly behind the lens.

you neeed to remove the trim piece and the screws to be able to move the big felt lined cover.Hard to explain and wife is out with the 99 or I would take pics.
Later today or maybe a wagon owner can explain better.

The manual...

The manual does not explain how to remove the felt piece for some reason. I wonder if thats because Mercedes owners are supposed to go to the dealer for this? If the "light defective" warning was not driving me crazy, I would let it go...

I guess I am a bit afraid of pulling that piece off, as I am not sure if I'd be able to put it back...

remove all the really obviuos fittings

then just gently pry the panel off iif it hangs up look at that point to see if you missed a screw or a snap or a clip. They all are very firm fittings on a benz but that's why they are so quiet and solid.Just don't force, you can do it.Usually fittings are behind pop off buttons or around the edge.
once off you will be able to reinstall easily.

The reference link to the analog stereo in the thread above is not working. Is there another place where this could be found?

It's just a link for the owner's manual.

Check the stickies for updated links, and also mbusa's website.

Good luck.
