does anyone know what's involved if the computer gives you the code P2314 (ETC one or more messages from N93 central gateway not on CAN bus) ?
in other words, what's wrong? how bad it is and what would it cost?
thank for any help, or suggestions as to where one can find explanations of these codes that a layman can understand? (CAN bus, N93 gateway, etc., mean nothing to me, sorry...)
2nd one back on the drivers side looking into the hood.Check the wires, and the coil.
more if you need it pm me.

Give me a little while in the morning to get the details it may be one of the mercedes only codes, still think it is related to the ignition.Have you scanned the codes with a obd scanner?
Mr. K ,but it is off the can bus,so maybe we can figure out what it is pointing towards.
odd code isn't it.Thats why I asked him where he lives so he can get the codes read the codes with a scanner and clear them, just in case it is a glitch in the obd 2 system.
Peace

I agree. Unless he had some other 'funny' symptoms at the same time, he may never see it again.
BTW Idee, how did you find out about code? Did it pop up on your display with Check ????.
idee?
So the 2 which is an odd (P)power train code denotes eobd which is the new protocol in the obd nomenclature.2000 and up .european onboard diagnostics.
You really need to scan the codes, and post all stored and active codes here, and then erase them. Then you can see if they come back or were just a one time event.
any drive issues related to the message on the display?

Thank you guys, ohlord and Kobus, for your replies. (Was away for weekend, only read them this morning.)
My story, to answer some of your questions: I had the Check Engine light come on while driving on the highway. Then after two days of not using the car, I started it in the morning and the Check Engine light was not on any more... Nevertheless I took it to a garage that same morning, they hooked up their computer (under the hood, not under the dashboard) and came up with this code (along with P2016--P2085). They reset it and since then the Check light has not come on again (but I drove only a couple of hundred miles since, so it's kind of early). There were no drive issues (or any "'funny' symptoms") at same time the light came on (or in general, knock on wood!).
So, ohlord, is it "Coil 5 is bad" or was that just an early guess?
Thanks a lot again for "thinking for me"...
Dee
PS I am in Massachusetts but what difference does that make??
those codes are power train events.intake ,exhaust and coil.Cleared and not back means they are gone for now and for good,we hope!
