I've had my 1996 E300D for a little over a year, but I just cant justify its classiness when I'm a broke-ass law student. I've run it on various percentages of biodiesel and ULSD for the past year and have had no major issues. 179k miles, silver ext, black leather int.
Recent work:
Fuel lines and filters
glow plugs
Oil changed every 3k miles
Brakes two months ago
a/c duovalve in June
I have all the manuals and service records going back (apparently) to the 1st owner. No accidents. Tires are about 60%.
Please send email for additional pictures and anything I have (undoubtedly) left out. (obsever94@aol.com)
Don't pay attention to ohlord. He knows nothing about diesels.
Those are in high demand in California. Try to post it on local craigslist. If you can deliver, that would make nice vacations as well. That's what we did last time we purchased diesel in Pennsylvania. Fact is, that I paid 11 grands for 98 model, where turbo makes big difference.
In fact, I was in the market for another 210.020 about a year ago. Were you closer to St. Louis and had the car for sale a year ago, I would have been all over it for 11K. I got tired of not finding a used car that I wanted and purchased a new Jetta TDI instead. For cash.
you would have paid 2 times what it was worth, don't even say i don't know the market. The diesel is tops an 8-9 hundred premium to the gas model.A 1996 gasser can be had for 4g,diesels are on the market selling for 5k.You may wish you could get more private party, that's all it would be,a wish.
Even private party kelley blue book would put it at mid 6g and they are notoriously high,by anyones estimates.Excellent condition low miles in near perfect shape would be about 10,000 asking price at a dealer. And since he is not the dealer, you arrive at the private party price.Just because you guys buy at the dealer and dream of the big kill on the resale does not make it reality.
Go ask what the dealer will give you for it today,Cash,no trade in,you just want to sell it for the money.
Post the amount and be honest about it. tops $4500 see if I'm close

"KNOW PRICES?"
And if you take advice from K above as to the value of a car,he's the same guy that condones not changing brake fluid, for 9 years or more because there is no moisture in the air in California for the brake fluid to absorb!!!!!!!!
Dream of the big kill on the resale? Hardly. You seem to think that I have a motive here. Sorry, I have no dog in this fight.
I was looking at a '97 last year, priced at 16K. That dealership failed to call me after performing some repairs, but I assume that they got close to their asking price. What KBB says and what these cars actually sell for are two different things.
what the dealer wants. You take your 96,buff it up,go to the dealer and see what they will give you for it cash.
Are you really trying to assert that a 5000 buck premium over the 1996 L6 gasser, is in line with reality?People buy the diesel for its fuel economy,5g can buy a lot of gas, anyone but an idiot would realize they were going down stream quick if they took that deal.

I was also looking at at diesels earlier this year. Very limited availability in CA and only slightly better in AZ. 120,000 mile Jetta TDI's were selling in AZ for more than they cost when new (VW also stopped selling diesels in AZ in 2006/2007). The price premium made me buy a gasser again since it would have taken too long to recoup money. So I would say it depends on where you sell it - in CA the prices for diesels would be better, since we have been deprived of diesels for a few years.
The car is worth $8-9K all day long, $11K is way too much though.
I bought My 97 on ebay, 12/26/06, with 147K Miles for 8500$ cash and it was a steal. I know diesels, especially W210 ones, try searching the ebay completed auctions on these...
Ask $8999 and see what you get ebay will most likely bring $8000-$8500
