New appreciation/New doubts.
My car was at the dealer this past week for a new Battery and the A service. I was issued a C230 Sport. This is a beautiful car and looks very fast. The only issue is that the car cant get out of its own way. It felt good to get my 430 back. It feels safer to be able to move at will and not wait for the engine to react after you press the gas.
And the doubt that I have, A lovely lady that works for me mentioned that she thought:
My car looked like a old mans car!
The color is so bad!
Women would never look at me in that car!
I need to get a w211!
Why did you buy that Boxey car?
Are you sure its a 01 and not a 95?
You all have the same car. What are your thoughts?
And she drives a 01 Lexus GS430.

I just don't like the W211 as it looks like a Chrysler. I like my 1999 W210 (pre-facelifted) more than the W211.

I agree on point one and two.
Three depends solely on what you look like. An old MB shouldn't impress any ladies (most know what the new E class looks like by now)
Well, the model does date back to 96 with minor changes, so shes not totally wrong.
To me, you should focus on that you like it, and don't let someone else's opinion sway how you feel about your own car.
That said, the model is somewhat dated. Dated in a classic way, but still dated.
prefer the 98-02 look as preferred to the 211 snoop nosed taurus look,Drop it,tint it,wheel it,enjoy it...........Who really cares what some woman that drives a jap car thinks.Wifes enjoy them. Single?chicks enjoy them.
Looking? Buy a Ferrari F430
That will get you Babes!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I was you, I wouldnt give a rats ass what she says, if anything she is dissing you and not your car and in that event I still wouldnt care. The E320 is a great car no matter how many model years it pushes. The modifications are endless. I drive my E-Class feeling privilaged because if you realy look at cars on the road when driving about 50% of them cant hold a candle to an E-Class, 12% are other MB's and 10% are way beyond our price range and we wouldnt be here chatting if we can drive them, and the rest are comparible even up to 2008's of different makes and models. There is no way I would let a lady tell me I should get a new car, I will leave that up to my wallet and emotion. The only w211 I would get is an E500 or E55 anything else realy doesnt sit right with me. The relaxed but Big Body style of the w210 is still respected by alot of people. And in all honesty she is pushing a 2001 Lexus G, come on.....she's jelous....LOL

Tons of lady wants my car and me. I'm sure its the color of your car.
No hard fellings, I think the Desert silver color is out of style in OC area. I have not see them for last 3 years... But i really like that color and they look very unique.
I have to weigh in here. Yes, the car can look like an old man's car. That was my initial thought when considering this vehicle. However, just look in the photo section of this forum . A set of rims, a 1 inch drop, some reasonable tint, and voila, an updated classic. Some people can go too far with them, but many still retain that classic look which to me is kind of timeless. Look at other cars out there that are 3 to 6 years old. The hype and excitement when they were introduced fades quickly. When I see a clean, well cared for Mercedes on the road, there is no thinking about it. It's a Benz, period.
So maybe your car just needs a couple of updates. Think about that. You own a nice car.
If you like the car, that's what is important. Doesn't matter a whit what others think. Same thing with houses, spouses or pretty much anything else that is a significant investment of emotion, time or money.
Now if YOU think it's dated looking, then you're rolling down a different track, i.e. there is now something you DON'T like about it.
Drop and a set of wheels/tires will set you back perhaps as much as a couple grand. Yeah, it makes a big difference in the way it looks. But do you want to toss that much money at a car whose value is someplace in the middle teens just to make it look better?
How long do you plan on keeping it? If you anticipate several more years then the mods make a bit more sense, if you don't then it's certainly not worth the money. You drop in a couple grand, it doesn't change the value of your car much, if at all.
If you can determine that you don't need that much room, have you considered the new C class? MBZ did a great job on that car, very fresh styling, power increases, etc.
I think that's all the thoughts I have on the topic. Other than to say that I applaud you for not responding to your employee with something along the lines of: Yeah, you look dated too, and if it was you I was looking to attract, I'd buy something else immediately. Like a seppuku sword.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg
