Ok, so somehow hot coffee got spilled on my e430 (no point explaining - it was basically out of my control) and it sort of ruined the clearcoat on the hood.
It looks fairly bad.
And, i've got a nick on the rear bumper, so I figure I'll do both.
So,
A. Where is the best place to go (type or specific place, I live in Chicago)?
B. Where is the least expensive place to go (type or specific place)?
C. How much should I expect it to cost to either entirely repaint or redo the clearcoat on the hood (range)?
How bad is "sort of ruined"? Are you familiar with circular polishing machine techniques? If not, you'd be amazed what abrading off the top of the clearcoat can do. Hot coffee damage definitely sounds like something that could be fixed rather than resprayed.
Menzerna Intensive Polish get the menzerna intensive polish, and final polish2,and the FMJ.Read the free diy book ,get a rotary polisher and some good pads from an auto body supply store or order the kit on that link.It may look bad,but unless it went clear thru it can be saved for far less then a complete stripping and respray of the clear coat.thousands less.P.M. me if you need help.it can be done....and when you are done you will have all the stuff needed to keep her show car shined, and be the envy of all who see it.
I just took a day and did my brothers car while he was visiting us.A black toyota matrix so dull and swirled and scratched you could not see a reflection, stripped the wax, clayed the paint, intensive polish, glaze, final polish and fmj, topped with a coat of hand applied carnuba wax.It looks better then new and reflects clouds like it was a mirror bottomed pool.
And hey at least you spilled it on the paint and not on the shifter console!!!!!!!
major problems with that one,so count yourself lucky!
