thinking of upgrading to E300D

Turbodiesel owners:

I am seriously thinking of upgrading to 1997-99 E300 turbodiesel from my current 1984 W123 300 turbo. New baby is here and I need a car with functioning A/C and heater plus with cleaner and newer interior.

What things must i look out for before buying one? Do these engines last like the 5cyl we have on the W123? Which year (97, 98, or 99) is recommended? Thanks in advance...

Keep in mind that only the '98 and '99's are turbodiesels. The '97 is not.
