I did a quick survey on Auto Trader. If I am looking for a 2000-2002 E430 in Silver with anywhere from 40K to 60K miles, the prices come back from $17,500 to $21,000 for private sellers and dealerships.
What was surprising was that the E320's were priced pretty much the same with similar mileage. There were 3 times as many for sale compared to the E430 though. If the pricing is so close, I want the V-8 for sure.
These seem like KBB prices. Someone on this forum said that KBB is inflated and does not reflect "street" prices. Is it implied that I should be able to negotiate off a couple grand or something?
Prices are falling for last several months. More fancy car = bigger fall. You might be surprised that used AMG is not that much more, than 430.
If that is not enough, check the prices on Royce-Rolls.
either, start with edmunds.com and work the pp up to their breaking price, never deal down.I just did a nationwide search on the craig and the market is getting even better then it was 6 months ago.1998 e430 low miles in the high 8k's,1999 in the 9ks-10k,2000 in the 11000-12mids.the v8 is about a 700-900 up on the v6.if gas prices keep going the margin is going to get a bit tighter.Auto trader is a dinosaur, dealers post it and pray for a chump. The real action is on craigslist.
edmunds 2000 60k miles low 11tho and that would be a nice find, and they are out there.
use whatever value guide works to your advantage. the reason to use KBB or
NADA is because nearly all financial institutions use these one/two, rarely the
edmunds, et al. but if you're relying on the source as a negotiating tool, you
use whatever works to your advantage....natch.
I don't use them because I always pay cash and only finance property. So the nada never comes into play. The reason edmunds works in the real world is because it looks at the real selling price of the cars over a period of time, sure a lot of private parties are dreamers and need to try and sell high, because they made a mistake and bought to high in the first place(you know, the ones who believe they have the finest example in the country according to their trusted mechanic). In the end they sell it for the market price and that is what you are looking for.The real market.
search the whole country on crazedlist.org on your mozilla browser.Lets you search all of craigs without having to enter each city.

Hey Ray did you know with the use tax on cars here in wa state, they tax you on the nada value no matter how much below that inflated value you buy a used car for?And if you push it they will knock the value down 2 grand to get it nearer to the real value.
yeah, i used that crazed thang several weeks ago. tried to find a Kymco
scooter to add to my fleet. drove up to Blaine in the pick up truck to
transport it home. great for commuting espec when mileage is about
80mpg. lots of free parking in downtown SEA as well. took some
adjustment since I'm used to 750cc. hate it when the Harley rider
at work greets me now with "...sup...scooter boy?"
Picked up this latest benz on it for $9500 in san diego 6 months ago and drove it up north.
The neatest thing is I bought our 11 year old son an electric scooter on craigs for 50 bucks was looking for the manual online when i found out it was on a target store recall by the government.Took it to target and they gave us $225 cash, went on the net again and found a dealer that had gone out of business and had a $500 retail schwin scooter brand new in the box and sold it to us for 200 bucks! Sweet! Ain't the internet just grand.........
Don't forget e-bay for seeing what cars are actually selling for; bought my last two on there. Both were from NJ, the C220 from the original owner, the E320 from a dealer who took it back in trade from the original, elderly, FL owner. She'd driven the car 58k in 9 years & rarely in the rain.
NADA is great for banks as they have high values to justify their lending, edmunds.com is what we used @ the last dealer I worked for to help justify realistic values with customers.

ebay for the final price is good also for helping set to the market..for pricing .But man there is so much junk on there and people that are not on the up and up,I don't think I would ever bid on the cars, unless doing due diligence first, fly there, hire inspector if I did not want to take the trip etc.,
can you even think what is going on in someones mind when they bid on a 15grand car and take the word of a dealer or private party and some pics?
