dont change it early, so how long will the 0w-40 mobil1 with fleece filter last, some say 5000miles, 7500mile or even over 10,000miles.
I run M1 0w-40 and only MB Fleece filters. When I reset the FSS I indicate the synthetic oil not the conventional option. The FSS usually states change at 13,000 miles. Which for me is about 1 / yr.
I considered other filters, but guess I just like to pay more for the MB parts.
However at approx 70,000 our E500 uses no oil and runs like a new car everytime I turn the key.
Where can I find the fleece filters? Dealer only or online?
Hey, muleears.
Lots of online places sell the OEM filters. Most typically I get them through autohausaz.com. Excellent prices and you toss a couple of filters, cabin filters, bulbs and wiper blades in the mix it's quite easy to hit that magical $50 price point where shipping becomes free.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I saw the ones at autohausaz but I thought they were the paper ones. I guess they look the same. I just bought my 210 and it had a paper filter in it. Did a UOA and it checked out OK.

Most places, including autohausas, sell both. They absolutely do not look the same.
Here they are, paper first:
Moreover, they actually state it in the item description, "paper media type" or "upgraded fleece media".
I can't speak to other sites but I know some just throw up the generic picture, those are of the actual filters above.

you have a diesel w210, which uses different filters than the gasoline versions. 96-99 diesel w210 use all one kind of oil filter (not the fleece one), while the 96-97 gasoline w210';s use only paper, and 98-02 w210's use both paper and fleece oil filters.

True, true, true, good catch on the diesel point. My fault for not looking in his sig, his fault for not having it in his profile.
Technically the 1998 MY and newer should use the fleece element with synthetic oil. As Kajtek1 has pointed out initially the FSS system used conventional oil with paper filters, but if you're going to run synthetic, use the fleece filters.
Hopefully that's not any more confusing than it already was.
Greg - unless things have changed recently, Bosch has never been an OE oil filter provider for Mercedes.

Len, if you read it that way I certainly didn't mean to imply that they were. Rather, as I noted, that they were a true and respected brand name -- as opposed to whatever else he was finding on ebay.
