Camshaft Sensor question??

Does anyone know if a bad Camshaft sensor would prevent the engine from starting? I have read through this Forum of the CPS, but nothing on the Camshaft PS?

If it failed

engine will not start, cam sensor tells the ecu ,speed and position of cam lobes, without that info the computer thinks the engine is not doing anything and therefore has no reason to trigger requirements for amount of fuel/air/and when to ignite them,if it failed you are dead in the water. Are you showing a code for failed cam pos sensor?

Try looking into the crankshaft position sensor rather than the camshaft

Thanks for the reply,

No, I'm not getting codes. The vehicle started acting up after shutting it off, and 15 minutes later did not want to start, and after an additional 20 minutes it cranked up and drove it home. Since the first inccident, the E320 has started twice in a period of 7 days, and only momentarely and it shuts off.

After reading many threads in this Forum (which by the way it is extremely good and helpfull) I replaced the CPS and the MAF Sensor, but did not fix the issue. I also read that the Cooling sensor if bad will not allow the vehicle to start just like the CPS. Also took the cover off for the fuel pump to check its operation and it seems to be working, but I guess that does not mean anything unless I check fuel pressure. Any ideas or suggestions will be helpfull.

Thanks in advance.
Norman
