very scary,
This is part of a post today on another mb forum.Once again my adage holds true,"run don't walk to the nearest exit at the dealer."
this is for an E430
E430.....44,000 miles.......bought it with 19,000 miles 2 years ago
Just had service B and it was $500 flat rate + $136 for air filter + $90 for brake fluid + $220 for rear brake pad
Wanted an additional $240 for fuel filter + $635 for spark plugs + $80 for coolant flush (we said no to these items)
This is my first and only MB.....this seems ridiculous. Am I crazy or is this normal pricing????
Anybody top this one?or is it one for the record books?

This is ridiculous. My local MB dealer charges around $300 flat rate for B Service. You can buy the air filter for $12 at autohausaz.com and install it yourself as it is the easiest job, same for brake fluid service as it is a simple DIY. $220 for rear pads seems "normal" dealer price. I cannot comment on the rest of the prices as I have no experience on them.

Hey, ohlord. I think that dealer is located in the township of Bendover in the county of Andget, state of Ready.
In the olden days we referred to that as highway robbery. Now we just shake our (collective) heads and say, "That's why they're called 'stealerships'."
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

Our local Ford dealer appears to be changing owners or already has. I just paid $85 in labor to replace the cabin air filter! The previous time it was only $18. I plan to get quotes for service from several dealers before the Ford goes in again.

You guys make me felling better and better.
Last time I paid MB stealership for A service was about 4 years ago (car had warranty and paying around $100 in previous years I didn't notice when they move into the business of stealing).
Last time I paid mechanic for a repair? Let me think? I used my friend shop for axle replacement, but he didn't charge me for the labor (I tipped him).
So that would be like ... never. I got my driving license in 1970.

I feel your pain, dont get rid of the MB. Its clear as day that those prices are 110% retail markup. They have no right to rip you off like that, and if you have a print out of those prices I would report them. I have been to two dealers and though prices where hi, they where not that hi - your over about $200.
Here is something you can think about. When I worked at kinko's back in New York 1997, I saw customers walk in with bullsh*t jobs. I mean the worste little nit pic copy jobs . These types of jobs took the most time and yielded little to no profit, so to detour these people, I have seen co-workers quote them the highest retail value for services. Instead of breaking the price down to one quote which then would have been discounted they where quoted for every little thing. Which made paying for service made no sence so the customer walked out scratching thier heads. On the other hand other jobs where complex in completion but easy in productions so they got better discounts and faster service. Long story short I dont think they wanted to rip you off I think this dealership didnt want to use his man power to service your car and quoted you some out ragious prices so you would walk in favor of maybe newer cars or other deals thier behind on. Thats my opinion. Go to another dealer.

it wasn't me that got the bill, everyone here knows better then that!!!!!!!!!
just some poor smo on another forum.$200 high ?you must be livin large to even think that at $200 less then the prices he quoted would be reasonable!
They did several of the items,so they were not trying to chase him, unless it was with a tube of K-Y
I wonder how many women fall for the 635 buck plug change gambit?Caveat emptor

$136 air filter,is it made of spun platinum?
just ball park but if he did have all the work done it looks to be about 2grand before tax,so if that's 200 high to you,I'm movin to your neck of the woods and setting up shop.
To work on my car! I remember him directing me to sit in the wheel well of my then new to me '68 Chevy pickup & start out by changing the plugs. Haven't let a mechanic do anything I couldn't do myself since! I think you can buy a $200 entire car on Ebay (won't be much of a car) which is less than what the dealer was going to charge for maintenance parts, Yikes!
I wrote the story on this forum in the past, but this might be another good example.
About 6 years ago I bough W123 in good condition very cheap from owner in Baton Rouge. Main reason he sold it to me was, that he paid thru the nose to only MB shop in the city. He left me bunch of receipts for 2.5 years of his ownership. He paid for the car $3000 at the dealership. In next couple of years he spend about $4000 on the repairs. Sample repair was that in first summer he replaced AC compressor and got R12 charge for $ 1600. The following season the AC didn't work so another $500 for some switches and another R12 recharge.
So in 2 seasons the guy spend $2100 on AC repairs and on the 3-rd season the AC DIDN'T WORK.
He sold me the car for about what the AC repairs cost him.
