I have used it before but when I tried it today all i get is bad link....I have tried two different readers so what could be the problem

Sometimes you get a link error message if the plug is not perfectly in the port,get a flashlight and look square on at the port and plug when you plug it in,with the key off,then turn the key to on but not start position and hit the read button,should work and go thru the whole cycle.If not make sure someone in the past did not push the plug in so hard that they loosened the port socket.

If you have no communication with engine ECU, check fuse in control module box ( engine compartment right rear)
would cause no comm with obd2,I think he means it runs thru the cycle up until it should read the iso and then it flashes link error.So he is getting comm just not all the pins in contact.
