Since I'm the new deputy in town (sounds of derisive laughter and snorting heard 'round the forum) I've been thinking about a sticky thread, something along the lines of "deals, tricks and tips". A couple of things make me think it might be worthwhile.
First, the recent post about how to set your transmission to baseline and relearn; while not a DIY, it's information many don't know about and wouldn't study the manual long enough to find. The alert about lug bolts for the spare, how to set your hood wide open, that's another than I didn't realize until it was shown me. Such things are really more of a tip/trick than a true "DIY" but it would be nice to have things like that captured in one place.
Second, we often hear recommendations for things, a great deal on something we all want, etc. For example I just found a really good deal on a couple of different OBD code readers, I think ohlord had one on that too, etc.
Third, handy tools to have, such as the spark plug boot puller, torx bits, etc.
While in some ways these are disparate ideas, I don't want to clutter up things with too many stickys and I think they are related enough that a single sticky could handle such items. I'm considering something along the lines of the DIY sticky, really a closed thread so it doesn't get really messy. Instead if you had something worthy of the sticky category you'd post with a title "TIPS STICKY ITEM" or something similar to catch the mod's attention, with the body of it to contain the tip, link, details, etc. then we'd add that link to the sticky thread, changing the title accordingly. Alternatively we could do two separate stickies if you think it's worthwhile (1 for tips/tricks, 1 for tools/deals?) Either way it's a little extra work for the mod, but that's part of what we sign on for.
So, all that to say, what do you think? After all, this is YOUR forum, I'm just here to do what little I can to help make it worth your time. Vote in the poll above and if you have other input post a reply as well. If you hate the idea say so, too. If there's enough positive feedback I'll start the thread with a post about a couple of things and we'll go from there. NOTE: At this point please don't start posting tips/deals etc!
I'm going to sticky this for the time being, then I'll dump it either way. Let me know your thoughts, folks.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

hmmm....but if, by doing this, it effectively removes our ability to callously post "STFF"
or "STFM" i dunno..... ;-) tongue-firmy-planted.
i think it's an idea worth trying. they're basically variations on a theme of FAQ idea
so if it helps line up information about our babies a little nicer and potentially saves
time searching, i think it's a good effort....to try.
I think this forum is complicated enough already for average user to get lost in it.
Since we already have sticky topic with links to other topics, why not just add a section in it? Tips, tricks and deals already exist in each of linked topics.
I am still promoting diesel section on this forum. There have been just few diesel engines in MB USA in last 30 years, so one section might cover all diesel models.
Still when I have some issues with my diesel, I have to make huge search in whole forum.
Its not a bad idea. Id like to see more info on mods, tricks are for kids, and tips are for waiters, LOLOLOLOLOLOL, Im just joking......it lined up to good for me not to go for it...LOLOLOLOLOL
Serious note: I think that would be cool as long as we can add to it, such as when I used chrome like tape to line my window sills, It took me 4.5 hours, I will do it again and take pics. Its a $6 upgrade. I also plan on trying something never done before to see if it helps. If things like this can go in that sticky cool. I think there are some very creative people here who have done some nice tricks and tweaks to get the job done.

Hey, Kajtek1. You going to be able to make it next Saturday?
Personally I like your idea. I assume you mean like a separate forum just for the diesels, not a sticky thread in this forum. I can see it in the general forum group, that would seem appropriate, although it would also seem fitting in the technical. If that's what you mean please confirm and I'll introduce it as an idea to the other mods and, ultimately, the admins.
Next Saturday? Life is to adventurous to plan that far Call me Wednesday.
I don't care where diesel section would land as long as it is in one piece and not spread around whole forum. I think technical section would be appropriate, but again, I really don't care.
Thanks for the feedback, folks. Thus far the votes are definitely close, but with the added replies I'm thus far leaning towards two, with the deals one open (you add those two together, there's a clear preference for having two, only Q is open or closed). I'll probably redo the DIY sticky, leaving it more as a DIY, with some of the items (probably the FAQ as well) there moving to the new Tips/Tricks and then the separate deals sticky. Soon as we dump the current GTG sticky that will leave us with four regular stickies: Photo Gallery, DIY, FAQ, Tips and Tricks and Deals. That's probably not too cumbersome unless you're working with a mobile device and if you are, you deserve your torture.
Whatever, I'll certainly wait until after the polls close. And then find some free time, what?
