ff is a system value,the sun sensor doesn't affect the a/c to any detriment ,and after you properly fill the system the code may be gone anyway,or reset the system while in error mode.
Get a set of gauges to check and fill the system and if your not sure what you're doing get help,over filling can do more damage than under filled.Get the good gas not the stuff with the leak stop goop.Find the leak,be careful around the refrigerant,
it be bad!

Lightbulb Sun sensor

As far as I know, the sun sensor only affects the fan speed, and speeds up the AC fan/blower when it detects direct sunlight.
