Question What are my options for 1999 E430 headlights?

Hello, I need some help here. I have a 1999 E430 and the halogen headlight lens are now yellowish and I can't see very well at night. I want to convert to HID and I know there are several posts already, but since I have no experience in this, I want an option that is nearly trouble free and easy (I am not real handy).

I checked ebay and saw this -

eBay Motors: 96-99 MERCEDES W210 E CLASS *TRUE* XENON HID HEADLIGHTS (item 120120508192 end time Jul-14-07 22:10:05 PDT)

However, one of the buyers that I contacted said there were several problems with the HID. So I am thinking either (1) I try to sand the existing lens (2) replace just the lens (is this easy to do?) (3) buy one those kits (which one?) Can anyone that has done this give me some help in deciding? Thanks!

If you can find any OEM replacement lenese you should do that or sand the your existing lens. Purchasing one of those aftermarket kit is a half/half success/fail story. Many have complained about it not projecting enough light and some are happy with it. but be aware that long term for the aftermarket kit arent so great. you will begin to see more notable scratches and oxydation alot faster on the after market kit than you would see on a OEM kit on.

Thanks for the reply. I contacted one of the buyers of the same kit, and he said this - "The lights came in and the fit was not perfect. I have the headlight spray washers and I had to break the fit for the headlights to fit. But once they were in "damn they look good over the yellowish old ones". Now, I did have a problem with the "plug and play". The lights would not come on when first installed. One light had a short, the other was wired backwards (positive was negative and negative was positive). I got the lights to work. The support (all be it all by email and not by phone) was good as they did respond to each and every email. Yes one headlight needed to be sealed (what a pain in the ass). I made the mistake of going into a touchless car wash (blasts water real hard at your car) and one headlight did fog. I put them in the oven (look up WWW.BENZWORLD.ORG ) for instructions and sealed the one that leaked. The headlights were not "problem free" and were kind of a pain in the ass" but they look REALLY good."

To me this is not worth the look. I think I will have to go with OEM, but will sand it first. Quite a bit disappointed if you ask me

There is at least one thread on here that gives some detailed instructions on how to get your lenses clear again. It involves wet sanding and power buffing, these kinds of things. Try the search function using "headlight lenses" and I'll bet you will find much more info.

I would just buy some good looking used ones from e-bay that are clear. Heck, they would last another 5-6 years before getting yellow. You may not have your car by then.
