Over the past couple of month the car has developed two distinct problems.
1) When braking it seems like my brake disks are warped or that they are catching on something. If I am slowing down or pulling up to the lights with light braking...it catches, becomes free, catches, becomes free which doesn't feel right. I have changed the brake pads, brake disks and brake fluid level is fine. Any ideas? I was about to replace the brake switch a few months ago, but didn't when a few squirts of WD40 on the switch made the ABS/ESA codes go away.
2) Secondly i am starting to get a noise at the back of the car. The noise started out like as if a small metal ball was in a plastic box and would roll from one side to the other, under braking or whenever I come off the accelerator. There is no noise under constant speed, cornering, accelerating. Now it seems to be not as noisy but with more frequent noise as if the metal balls are smaller and rolling around more (sorry for the description!). The shocks seem fine and the rear exhaust is on solid.
Has anybody experienced either of these before? Just want a few ideas before I bite the bullet and knock on the dealers door.
I Thought the disks were warped which is why i replaced them a few weeks ago. But the problem never went away. I replaced the disks and pads at the same time.

Maybe you were sold bad replacement rotors (?) stranger things have happened. I have never heard of bad pads but I suppose that remains a possibilty as well.
The noise in the rear sounds like your catalytic converter(s) are going bad, and for some reason they seem to go one at a time, with the other following rather quickly.
Good Luck!

Did you replace all four rotors and all eight pads when you did it?
What prep did you use on the new rotors and what process did you use to bed them in to the new pads?

I got a friend of mine with his car (E300 '97) to drive and he felt the same things I did. Anyway, someting struck me regarding the brake switch. I had the new one, but never put it in since a bit of WD40 seemed to do the trick on the old switch. With the new switch in the car is running like a dream now under braking, smooth and assured. The noise regarding the gearbox is now gone, so I will wait until my next service, just below 100,000m, to get it looked at.
@ Gregs210,
I did not prep the new disks at all, i just put them on, and then put the new pads on. Aside from using the anti-brake-squeal stuff I followed the procedure exactly as detailed here in the DIY section. Is there more to it?
I have seen several cars where the disc have gone within a couple of days of fitting, they can go in several different ways. they are made of cast iron an unstable metal
Not only can they warp, they can suffer from a thickness variation
