I have taken my vehicle to have it recharged and it was 2 pounds low of freon. With the 2 pounds in and the system checked out ok my ec (economy) light is red and will not go out and the compressor will not kick on does anyone have any answers or a good starting point to troubleshoot this problem?

The orginal freon 134 leaked out. Did you repair the leak?
The red light is on to protect the compressor from operating with a problem.
I think the problem you have is your recharge has leaked out.
Do not recharge system untill you repair the leak.
Read the "AC Quits Blowing Cold Air" thread to get the procedures to extract the codes and current sensor values. First read the codes and turn the key back to off. That resets the codes, so be sure to write them down. Then see if the system runs, and post the codes and the current sensor values.
I'd recommend posting them in the above named thread, just to keep the stuff together. It may help someone else down the road.
yes I have had a slow leak in it for a couple of years a charge usually lasts me a year but this year I went to have it charged and it did not work like the previous years would it not kick on because of the same slow leak whereas it did in the past. I know I need to get it fixed properly but it was really hot today lol.

I hear ya, best to bite the bullet, and get it fixed. Here is more information
thanks everyone for your help. I ran a diagnostics test put the codes in on the website and got the information I needed. I bypassed a sensor to turn the compressor on and filled it with freon and she works like a champ thank you very much if the sensor kicks it back off I will replace the sensor time will tell but once again you guys were great in helping.

I told you, you need to fix the leak. You did nothing, your freon will be gone by the morning. You have only wasted time and money. The sensor you speak of is one that protects the compressor it is functioning, as it should no need to bypass or replace. I'll be here I know you will be back.
The pressure sensor on this system is not a switch as was used on older models; you can't just short the wires and expect to do anything but possibly damage other parts of the system.
The closest thing to "bypassing the sensor" that you can do is code the unit. See the other thread that I referenced. I sent you there for a reason! I didn't start that thread, but it is listed in the DIY links above. Using it will help other people gain from your information; unless you don't care about anything but getting your system running. If the latter is the case, well, mine already runs so why should I care about yours?
There's no guarantee that his refrigerant will be "gone by the morning." It may be a slow leak, in which case topping the system up may be fine. Note that we don't have any Freon in our cars. That's the trade name for R-12 only. We use R-134a.
