I have the chance to buy a 2001 E240 Elegance W210 Auto at a good price.
Ex-Ambassadors car and well equipped with VERY low 35K kilometers from new.
FSH etc.
Are there any particular issues I should check on this car? (I have done all the usual web searching but generally find specialist forums are 1000% better for advice about particular models).

If you can get the perches checked, springs, look for rust in the usaul places, at that low milage you should be good. Also if your getting a good price, take the savings and do the B service at the dealership (EVEN IF ITS BEEN DONE NOT TO LONG AGO), check for recalls, open hood to see if you hear any HB etc......drive with driver side window and music off listen for noises from the front and back, then do the same with the passender side window. Also at that low miles, you may not have had the other things go wrong for example the window regular, so with radio off move all windows up and down and listen and feel for abnormal movement. Get the codes pulled to see if there are any codes. Check wires by front and back lights. after that you should be great
After years of owning many different cars and doing my own maintenance, I've now owned and worked on a 210 for a few years, too. And if I were looking at the car you're considering and it passed initial muster with me, it would next go to a good indie for a proper inspection. No way would I step into a car as sophisticated and complex as these without that additional set of well-familiarized eyes reviewing things. The few hundred that costs could potentially save you several times that amount.
That's the single best piece of advice I can offer.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

greg210, I totaly agree with you especialy if he is saving money. When I purchased my car, I had it taken for inspection, and when the dealer said everything was good and I went to take delivery of the car, I did my own personal inspection and found a leaky steering fluid hose. I had them take the car to a second independent who fixed the hose and other stuff, then had the car taken to a third dealership, but it was the run through I did myself that caught what I felt the original dealer wasnt willing to tell me. I guess I am super skeptical on any advise from some one that wants my money. Congrads on all the work you have done your self that motivates me.
I doubt it. It seems like most of you guys are more into furry seats and spinning wheels than anything mechanical.
I'm off to find a decent Merc forum.
redsnapper, I dont want to start anything here further from trying to help you, but your 100% wrong about your statement. This particular forum, like any other you go to will be very helpful in the end. We all love helping each other and have different experiences and different ways of going about doing things. One guy uses his tools to fix something with his left hand so he has his view, the other uses his right hand so he has different advice even though both are rotating thier tires. In the end it is 100% up to you to take a friendly community like this one's advice and compare side by side with your own knowledge. If you look further into this forum you will find a whole lot of money saving advice, and once again welcome, and when you do come back (BECAUSE YOU WILL EVEN IF YOU DONT POST OR REPLY) welcome back a second time, look learn and listen. Enjoy your MB.

What the hell was that about? The 208 and 203 forums have a lot of MOD post. But I thought the 210 forum was low key with that stuff. What turned him off?
