I am not having any success removing the rear license plate screws. After using some WD40, all four just turn continuously. I peeled back the trunk liner and see a female end which keeps turning and I'm unable to free the two.
I had the problem with those rivets, that spin in the hole as well. It the screw is not too corroded, inserting the good screw driver in the screw and tilting the handle while turning it did the trick for me. By tilting the rivet you increase the friction between the rivet and the body panel.
Question how to protect it for the future. I used thread locker.
I had the same issue. I unsnapped the trunk lining and held the rivets with a vise while I unscrewed them from the outside. It worked for me. I have to say that it was a little tricky. Good luck.

Remove the inner cover liner and hold the female bolt with a pair of players (vice) to prevent them turning while unscrewing form outside. This should do.
What can i use to remove the black plastic holders keeping the liner intact without damaging them
thanks
I used scissors to slid under both sides of the black cap. I gently pryed up until they popped out of the holder. When you put them back make sure they clip correctly. Test it out and you will get the hang of it. Good luck.
