Exclamation metal to metal buzzing under shifter. ANOYING

anytime i sit at a stop light or when ever i accelerate at a slow pace, i hear this buzzing sound under the shifter. i have no idea what it is.

Skipin,
My 98 E300TD did that until my independent mechanic replaced one of two bushings associated with the shifter. Took him about 5 minutes under the car on a lift. Part cost $2.95, and he worked it in during a regular service and added $24 labor. He said that the rear shifter bushing is the most common failure, and that my front bushing was still ok.
Good luck --
BHT

Two other possibilities: one or both catalytic converters (expensive) or a buzzing heat-shield (no parts needed).

Thanks for the tip! I get a slight buzz/vibration from the shifter @ highway speeds. I don't notice it when driving alone thanks to a loud stereo...
