Rain Sensor not working as it should after windsheild replaced

Hi All,

If anyone can help, it would be appreciated.

I have just had my windshield replaced by a specialist company due to a crack. The rain sensor worked before, but now when in rain sensor mode (switch position 1) the wipers just keep going as if they were on position 2.

The sensor that came pre-glued to the new windshield is slightly different to the one I had on the previous windsheild, which is a bit suspect. The company has agreed to replace the screen again next week.

However, does anyone know what the led is for inside the sensor box? When does it light up? I removed the sensor from the glass and switched on the rain sensor, but no led is lighting up. Does this mean my rain sensor box has become damaged when the job was done?

Thanks,

I have seen this question asked on here before (try a search, but use the entire forum, not just W210 since these are all alike). I think at least once the installers did not know what they were doing. It looks like your people are trying to work with you, so I would see what comes of the new windshield. Had it been me, I think I would have had a MB dealer do it.

Good Luck!

I have a question,

Is it okay for me to leave the windshield wiper in position one, always, since it will come on by itself when it rains, and switch off when there is no rain?

I think if you do that, the wiper will swipe once whenever you first start the car. I think that will wear the wiper blade out faster than normal since it will be sweeping a dry windshield most of the time.
