Newbie post here just to say thanks to all the knowledgeable guys here in helping me change the sensor after engine died on me the other day ( only started again after cooling down ).
It was an easy 10 min fix thanks to detailed pics of where it was located , and now runs smoother than ever ( maybe just my imagination ).
I am in the UK and its a 2001 E240 avantgarde model with 135,000 miles on the clock, lots of motorway munching with full service history, but sweet as a nut at the moment.
Am I right in thinking that a lot of spares are shared between the 240 & 320 ? because USA spares seem less expensive than here , my sensor cost $ 140 from the main dealer! . Are there other UK posters who could perhaps let me know of a good source for parts over here.
Again thanks for all the knowledge contained in this site.
I j ust had my car fixed for the same thing. It would only start cold. I got the crank sensor replaced and it cost me $480 parts and labor. Im in houston Texas. E-430.2000 model.94,000 miles or so.

Woow !!! Your dealer should be put on Tribunal court & hung.
I paid $156 for CPS at California dealer.
10 minutes? WOW! The European 240 models might have less junk under the hood, what makes the access easier. On V8 I had to take the wheel off and get thru the inner fender and heat shields. That was over 1 HR.
Welcome to the forum razal. Can you post the picture of the engine?
I can see how people can do it on the V6 in 10 minutes (not including gathering the tools, etc). There is enough space to reach from the top. Unplug the connect and unbolt the E8 torx and reverse the process. On my 2003 E320 Wagon, that bolt cannot be seen but can be felt with fingers.
Kajtek 1, now your asking me to do something harder than change the sensor . Its no different to look at than the 320 ( just has worse gas mileage ?), thanks for the welcome.
As loubapache says, can reach from above, I had visions of struggling underneath but not so, in fact I would think it harder to do from there.
It does involve a lot of feeling without seeing. I placed the trx socket on first then just put a 100mm extension bar and rachet on ( limited mvmnt yes but not to tight, once slackened off removed the rachet and twisted ext and socket with fingers ), not really to difficult .
I am at home using tools, but am no mechanic, the biggest job with the aid of a Haynes manual I have ever done was replacing both camshafts on a Volvo 264 years ago, (another V6 )not something I would wish to repeat though !
If you have a 210, check the DIY sticky thread at the top of this forum. There is a link to a replacement DIY for the CPS.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg
