Climate control not lighting up!

Hi,

A little problem with my 98 E320W. When I turn on the lights for the car the climate control unit does not light up. It still works fine, just doesn't light up? Possible causes? A bulb gone possibly? If so, how do I go about repairing this and removing the unit?

Thanks!

I have replaced the bulb twice attempting to solve the same problem? I have learned that I might need to get the fuses checked.

get the removal tools on ebay, search "mercedes radio tool"
get the bulb at the dealer.

slide tools into the little slots at the bottom of the "auto" buttons.
slide unit out. On the bottom you will see a little white insert. rotate counterclockwise and let it fall out in your hand. Replace the bulb and reassemble.

The first thing to know is that the climate control light doesn't come on directly after the head lights are turned on. The processor inside the climate control responds to information or data from the car. If the headlights are turned on, it can take a few minutes for the climate control to turn it's light on. If there is a fault in the data or in the climate control unit, it may not know that the lights are on and then not turn the light on. In that case, the unit may have to be replaced.

The first thing to do is to replace the bulb as mentioned before. Then if that doesn't work, find a friend who has an E-Class to try your controler in to see if it operates normally. Then if it does the same thing in another car, find a different one on ebay or salvage yard. They sell for about $100 for a used one.
