My wife just spilled coffee in the gear shift today. I just told her not to drink in the car! The car is at the dealer and I am waiting for the call of death with the estimate

I've done things to a car too that were expensive to fix too. One time I was driving my Boxster at Sebring and the power steerling line came loose and touched the header and melted through putting power steering all over the headers. BTW, steering fluid is very flammable, the whole back end of the car caught on fire. It cost around $3200 or so to fix. Luckily it was fixed within 10 days or so and I didn't miss the next event. Oh yeah, it caught fire in turn 6 so I was going 115-125 mph. The power steering line must have come loose in the carosel.

Sorry to hear about the accident and I can surely understand your anger and it may cost you. But hey, she's your wife. These things happen and I have no doubt she feels terrible. Put it in perspective. It's only a car (Yes even a Merc!!) Cars can be fixed and life goes on. It will make you as mad as hell now but she is your wife and she is special. We've all stuffed up at one time or another. Worse things can happen to us in our life. Be thankful that you even have a Mercedes. Many in the world would simply count their blessings for a hot meal.
Good luck.

It's for that very reason I don't use that cheesy gizmo Daimler calls a cupholder in the center console. You didn't say that's where her coffee was, but after reading a few horror stories about fluid down into the gearshift openings, I place my coffee mug on the passenger seat. The holes for cups in the glove comparment are pretty worthless too, if you ask me.
Good Luck!

Enough incidents that I have heard. Although we do not drink in the car but my teenage daughter might. So I am going to remove these cupholders in both cars.
