Today I was looking for the antenna amp location... I took out the molded carpets and the one immediately behind the rear seat and I saw the control unit/motor for the instant-down feature of the headrests. It's a circular device that had an air tube connected to it (it looks like it could do backup duty as a fish tank air pump). I could also see the bottom of the chrome hoops that are part of the headrests.
It's possible one of three things have gone wrong - 1) maybe something got caught in the chrome hoops or where they slide through as they are falling, for example wiring getting caught on the hoops, or maybe insulation as the car ages has come loose and gotten in the way or 2) maybe the air hose coming from the control unit has come loose giving only partial releasing power or
3) maybe the control unit for your instant-down has failed with age and somehow jammed some of your headrests in a way so they won't retract, or doesn't let them manually be in the upright position.
It's free to check possibility #1 & #2, but it might cost a little bit to replace possibility #3. It's also possible that your control unit is OK but the hose has cracks in it from age. If anyone has anything to add, that would be cool too.
Have a good weekend, hope this helps.
