ABS Malfunction light and brake pedal question

Good morning folks.

Occasionally, I will get an ABS warning light come on. The battery was replaced 1.5 weeks ago, so I don't believe its a low voltage situation.

The ets/asr Triangle light does not come on, im not sure if that is significant, but it seems like all the other problems with the brake light switch and such involved both lights coming on.

The light comes on when I start the car. About 30 seconds after I started the car, I rotated the wheel to the left and right, and the light went out.

Any ideas on this?

Also, I noticed the other day that I can grab the brake pedal by hand, and wiggle it side to side quite a bit. That doesn't seem like it should be the case. Can someone check and see if theirs wiggles as well?

Thanks.

Try cleaning brake dust with high pressure spray water inside brake caliper.

I was thinking I might hit the wheel sensors and reluctor rings with some brake cleaner.

thanks for the suggestion.

i have had a similar story as you a few years ago, but it happened on a 98 bmw528i which i had at the time, summer of 2003 if i remember it correct. the abs light came on one day, and the next day i took it for service, and the guy changed a couple or sensors. they were like $70 each, so total bill for parts + labor was like $180. but my light was on constantly. since yours goes on and off, i would think some cleaning around the are would resolve the problem.

how about the brake pedal?

does yours move side to side if you grab them and wiggle?

mine moves a little bit, on both my e320 and s320. i would say about 4mm on each side on the e320, and about 2mm on the s. but they are both over 10 years old. i don't think that's a problem, that's more related on how you position your foot while pressing on the pedal.
