Reserve Light

I dont have my manual yet but i'm curious... when the yellow reserve light comes on, how much fuel is left in the tank?

If they didn't change the tank in later years then it's 2.6 gallons.

Personally I always get gas before it gets to that point, that light is annoying as it can be. Which I suppose is the point.

Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

well i agree but mine comes on early, just past 1/4 and it catches me by surprise. When i was driving through Tuscan, Az on into the desert, there wasn't a gas station to be seen so i got worried. thanks for the info.

I usually can drive 60 miles at high speed when the light comes on.
Would do much more if I slow down.

I certainly can understand your curiosity, because I am too, and I don't remember seeing that mentioned in my Operator's Manual (Heck, it's probably there, but the thing is 300 pages long).

However, as you are probably aware, there are a couple of good reasons to not let your tank get to that level in the first place.

First of all, during the warm months, the submerged fuel pump is cooled by the surrounding gasoline.

Secondly, during the months when temps are getting warm and then cold again, there is more inner tank surface subjected to the formation of water condensation.

No offense Musicmann, but those are urban legends.
Quite often I drive 30 miles with reserve light on before refueling. Condensation issue applies when you park the car overnight in low temperatures. The only real concern is sucking the air in diesels, since they are hard to restart after. Than with 500 to 700 miles range, cutting it by 50 miles is not a biggie.

No offense taken Kajtek1 (at least about the condensation issue) but a M-B technician on here mentioned the cooling of the fuel pump by the higher tank level of gasoline in the last few months (probably a different sub-forum, but I don't remember which one).

I know the submerged fuel pump is on ML, because I replaced that one.
Don't 210's have fuel pumps outside the tank?

Sorry, I don't know. In my other cars (Plymouth and Toyota) they are both inside the tank and I was assuming that the M-B was too. If not, I would like to know. Thanks in advance if you find this out.

I will be at the dealer tomorrow for them to fix the squeaky steering wheel problem, and I will ask them then. I don't remember which MB we were talking about regarding the submerged fuel pump.
