Need New Cat

As the title says, I'm in the need of a new cat converter. Most of the quotes I'm getting are $450 - $500 installed. That just seems nuts!

I've seen hi-po converters for less than that it seems.

Who here has replaced one and what did it cost. Did you go back to stock or go for the performance ones?

All comments are appreciated.

Car is a 98 E320.

I don't know if your 1998 will qualify, but M-B has replaced CCs on cars with a lot of miles/years on them for free. I'd check with a dealer before going any further.

I just cracked 100k (103,000 to be exact). I wouldn't/didn't think they replace after 80,000. Has anyone heard of them replacing after the 100k mark?

Thanks for the info Muskimann.

Eric

Your welcome Eric,

80,000 miles might very well be the cut-off point, I just can't remember the precise details. Only that they were replaced fairly long after the original warranty was out.

Good Luck!

Don't forget that all important SEARCH function.

There's a post in here about aftermarket cats, I think they were magnaflow, both installed for under $300 if I remember right.

Yes, I saw that. I was just hoping for additional input. Thanks though!
