97 E320. Passenger side Lo Beam is defective. Can I just replace just the bulb or do I have to remove the entire headlamp Assy and then replace the bulb?
I tried to remove the assy by taking out the 2 #8 style screws. I carefully backed out the dohickey(?) that sits below the assembly (after also removing another #8) what is that thing by the way? After taht I carefully released the gasket material from the standoffs & restraints but the Headalamp Assy itself still seemed stuck. So rather than force it I put it all back together and have decided to write y'all instead.
There seems to be 4 choices for bulbs. Std, 55W, Blue and Super55. I live in Texas. Does it matter, the bulb that is, not living in Texas? Are the Blue ones legal? Do they help? Do I buy from MBZ in Austin or somewhere out on the Web?

if you have skinny hands and triple jointed, you may be able to effect a bulb
change w/o removing the headlight housing from vehicle. but pulling the
assembly is so simple that I actually prefer to do it that way.
rarely will blue be legal....though variation of light blue can be shrugged of
depending on your LEO. hopefully you'll get a response from fellow Texan.
there are also different types of H7 from standard, to bright, to long lasting,
to fake bright, etc.
no need to buy exotics with H7. just go to your local auto parts store and
try out the Silvania Silverstars. more often than not, folks are happy with
this line. you may want to browse this and other MB forums to view and
consider their comments.

Just to clarify...if you own the post 2K facelift, changing the bulb is much easier.
Which is a good thing, because in order to remove the headlight assembly, you have to remove the bumper. (Sigh...)
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

It's not overly difficult to replace the bulbs without removing the headlight. However, it really is a five-minute job to remove the unit, and you should expect to lose some skin if you try to do the job from behind.
It's a good thing you stopped when you did, since there are three screws on each side. If you do remove it, be sure to not move the adjusters. The two small metal adjusters probably won't try to move, but be careful with the big white plastic one, at the lower inside edge of each headlight. It will move quite easily once you loosen the attaching nut. Getting it right again if you move it isn't a huge deal, but one best avoided.
Is it my imagination or do about 1/3 of the posters on here not even bother to look in their owner's manual when the answers to their questions are there in black & white, well written with illustrations?

The early 210 owner's manual says to change them from the back, which is other than what greg is suggesting. It is a somewhat painful operation, in fact.
So yes, the information is there. But no, it's not complete.

Just for the sake of clarification, I don't have the pre-facelift, and I was just quoting Raymond's suggestion to remove the entire assembly. My 2001, there is plenty of access to change the bulbs, low, high, city light, turn signal, etc. without small hands or removal of anything other than the access covers.
