Is there any info on the forum about opening up a Smart Key? We recently lost a key and it was just located in a parking lot, it sat in the snow/ice for 2 weeks and looks like it may have been driven over, it is fairly scratched up but not flattened. It started the car fine and drove ok but would not open/close the doors. I want to check battery and connections inside it but I cannot figure out how to open it.
Any suggestions?
Go to : oem parts direct dot com (together 1 word), order the key pad, part # 0211 766 3606 and key blade, part # 0203 766 5006, cost $128.00 including shipping (take 10 days to 2 weeks). You need to send the registration (or car's tittle) + driver licence (matching name on the title). Still having questions, do a search ( smart key) on W208 forum, it will give you more info. I ordered the 1st key for $61.58, since 02/07 they rise the price, but still much better than my local MB dealer (at $200 or more). Good luck.
eh ¿ i just lifted that page 619 out of the online owner manual which shows the
new key. no web site hosting the whole manual that i know of. what info do you
need?
afterthought: if you mean non-keyless go... i dont have that, i think. i simply
extracted the page which shows how to open the chrome Smartkey for details
on battery swap

I ordered the chrome smart key from OEM Parts Direct :: Jaguar, Land Rover, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, and Volvo like several others. I inserted the blade key into the fob before placing the little color code tab in there. I was told we have to put the color tab in before inserting the blade key, but now I can't see how to remove it. I was hoping that would be shown on the other page.
oh...hmm, the manual is absent this info because (presumably) by the time the
owner has the new car, all this assembly with the key has already taken place.
when my chrome key arrived, the black plastic was already in place on the key.
i recd no seperates: chrome key, metal/mechanical key. that's it.
am examining my chrome key w/knurled plastic slider already in place and I'm
not seeing any obvious indication of how it pops out. within the chrome key
is a protruding metal button, which moves relative to the plastic slider. if i
apply pressure on the metal button, it does not seem to be directly linked to
the plastic slider. in other words, simply pressing on metal button in unlikely
to cause the plastic slider pop out.
do you have picture of the varied colored plastic buttons? would like to see
what the back side looks like, before i attempt to leverage it off. am fearful
it's a one way install, in which case its removal would prove unwise.
