Dealer sell me 7500 mile service, which is oil change for $104, which included car wash, courtesy check up, 8-9 QT oil, M1, formula M, filter for E320 and $126 for S500. They used to use M1, ESP 0-40W. You have to reset your own FSS afterward. did anyone know about the Formula M mobil 1 means ? After, I read the DIY oil change, I like the Harbor Freight Oil Extractor, with compressor vac. I personally own a electric compressor that goes to 200 psi, 3.5HP,11 gal tank.

I have changed my oil several times before I read your DIY. Had I done so a long time ago, I may not have made the mistake of forgetting to tighten the air filter canister.
On my way to the golf course Sunday morning, I thought I had blown an engine. A trail of dark smoke followed me as I entered the freeway. When I pulled over and popped the hood, I saw oil gushing out of the oil filter canister area.
I just found some time to work on the car (99 e320) today and after cleaning the engine compartment with Gunk Engine Brite, tightening the canister to your specified 18 ft/lbs., and replacing the 3 quarts that I lost on the freeway, everything seems to be fine.
Thanks for taking the time to put the pictures and the detailed instructions together. I especially liked the Mobil 1 site reference. I hadn't thought about going there. I had apparently been using the wrong oil.
Bruce, I laughed when I read your first line, since it sounds as though you waited until 120,000 miles to change the oil.
If you don't mind please click the user CP link and complete your BW profile for vehicle and location as that is often useful information.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I'm a newbie trying to save money on repairs by doing them on my 1997 E420. I found the DIY oil change instructions were concise and helpful. However the pictures are for the E320 V-6. I need assistance in locating the oil filter cap. Also, will I need to purchase the O-rings, seals, ect separately or do they come with the filter? Where's the most cost effective place to purchase them? Thanks!

Amani: Wlcome to the forum.
There is a (different) stickie for oil change for your exact model.
Greg is there anything wrong with just sucking the oil out throught the dip stick slot. It does go to the bottom of the tank, correct?
Fantastic Post by the way. Good people are the best!

That's the best, easiest, cleanest, fastest, recommended ...phew, I'm running out out words, but hopefully you are getting the drift.
