Has anyone had a problem with engine sludge with a 2001 E430 4Matic with only 60,000 miles? I purchased the certified used car 3 years ago from a MB dealer. They told me the car was sold at that dealership and the previous owner had done all the maintenance at their shop. I have had all the service done at that dealership. The car was taken in 3 days ago to do a service B. I told them I noticed a sludge buildup on the oil cap. They called me the next day and said that they would rebuild the engine with MB paying the bill. Has anyone else had this happen to them?

I met a guy who bought a used ML430 on eBay. M-B replaced his engine, and it was an oil issue but I don't know any more details (don't know model year or how many miles, etc.). Since this is the same basic engine, and MLs are 4WD too, there is probably some connection.

this is the first that i head of mb having an engine oil sludge problem. if anybody has experienced such issues, please be sure to post. i know that toyota and lexus had this problem with some of their camrys and es300
