hi guys, i have a strange problem at the moment were the car does not want to complete a full crank and actually get the motor running.
On a cold start it's fine but usually it happens after it has been sitting for a few hours, (3-4times now in the last few days.) were you turn the key and it just cranks and no fire. The remedy so far has been wait 5-10mins try again and it works.
i have had some people suggest it's the crank angle sensor? and that it's possibly staying warm etc?
has anyone incurred such a problem, it doesn't registered any "malfunctions" on the instrument cluster either.
That could be the CPS, but from what I've heard it's usually not heat related, seems to be problematic periodically pretty much without regard to temp.
Since the 2.4L is more common in the C Class you might search (or post to) those forums to see if there are similar symptoms as yours and particularly if they're heat-related.
Good luck, post back up and let us know if that solved it.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

I have an E240 which has similar problem. I keep thing it's fuel related since most times it's not started is when fuel has been low. My son mainly uses it and he would let fuel go low unlike me. But about 2 weeks back it even started not starting when 7 gallons (uk) in tank. Last time we managed to flatten battery and AA guy got us started. Changed battery for brand new one (heavy duty one) since I thought it may have been battery problem. BUT problem came back. It does seem though that on a long run you return back - park car and after say 4 hours it will not start. I always kept on putting more petrol and afterwards it would start BUT that might just be down to the time in re-try (about half an hour). This time I have put fuel cleaning product to see just in case this fixes it. By the way I have had the fuel pump checked and a service. Fuel relay was also checked and swapped with exact same type which is next to fuel one... Another thing which is I can't understand - I took out the fuel pump relay when it was strating ok and it started! So I thought I might have got the wrong relay - after ringing MB dealer and checking Autodata it was confirmed that I had the correct relay location... Have had the OBD scan done - NO FAULT CODES other than battery change triggered codes which is normal and cleared by starting car and turning full right then full left then drive and all is cleared but for memory (which was cleared on scan that we did). Now I am going to scan further with my work OBD scanner and try to check sensors some how - I am an IT expert so I will learn the scanner system quickly and work it better than any mechanic... Anyone have any ideas to types of scans I should do (this system I have is very good not just a simple scanner)... The car drive is great and it's just this strart problem doing my head in...
