I have a 1998 E320 with the factory head unit and factory 6-disc changer. I only have one Mercedes factory magazine. It's worked fine since I got it but now the head unit says simply "ERROR" and doesn't play or load any discs.
I tried checking the fuses in the engine bay and under the seat and couldn't find any bad fuses.
I took out the CD changer itself to see if the factory cable connector had come loose but it's firmly seated.
I can press the CD changer button that ejects the magazine and the magazine is ejected and all the leaves of the magazine seem to work smoothly. I tried changing the CD's themselves because I thought the changer might not read some discs but it doesn't matter what discs are in the magazine, the message on the head unit is still "ERROR" when I press the CD button on the head unit.
I wish my CD changer would work again because the radio reception sucks, I've read on other forum posts that it's a common thing and the antenna amplifier needs replacing. I'd be happy just to get the CD changer working again.
