Learn this some Years ago. from a watch repairer.... Brasso is also used to polish CDs, DVDs and other optical discs, in order to repair scratches. It is a mild solvent and a mild abrasive, so when applied to the reflective surface of the disc and rubbed radially (in straight lines between the edge and center), it can smooth scratches and reduce their effect. Although the effect is invisible to the naked eye (and often makes the surface look more opaque), it can tremendously improve the ability of many disc drives to read the disc.

Brasso has also been used to polish out scratches on the reverse side of iPods and similar MP3 players [1].

Hope this Helps.....

Hi guys,

I cleaned the lenses (long to do), polish them and clear coat them with Dupont A-7480S. I put 3 coats.

The result is above my expectation. Please look to the pics.

(I originally posted this elsewhere, but thought I'd share it here as well...)

I have about 115k miles, and can't bring myself to buy another car since this one is still running tops. But was wondering what I could do to freshen up it's looks. Those yellow headlights (kinda like yellow teeth - ewww) could use some brightening up.

Well, I finally took some time to clean up my headlights. Just did a quick search on google and found this simple proceedure.

Bought everything at local parts store.

1. Sand with 600, then 1000, then 2000 wet sand paper.
2. polish with mother's mag metal polish (rub it in good then wipe off)
3. use sponge to rub in rubbing compound then wipe off.(I bought turtlewax)

4. optional - Sun tan lotion (I got sunburn doing this outside).

I did everything by hand, no power tools (which would have been easier). 2 hours later and I'm really proud of the results!

Still need to do the fog lights, maybe later. They are pitted pretty bad.

Here are some pics. Whatcha think? Pretty nice, eh?

I got to the fog lights this morning. They are real GLASS. They were pitted so bad, I actually started with some 80grit sandpaper I found. Didn't make much difference as you can see in the close up. You can see where the glass was behind the bumper verses exposed to the road. Still, they look better now.

One light was broken, so I tried some glue, but it didn't hold. Given the badly pitted glass and the other broken, I should have just bought new lenses.

Anyway, off to the carwash!

was going to tell you if you tap on the fog lens with a coin you can hear the clink that tells you they are glass,Germanstar.net or autohausaz.com or the dealer sell the lens only for you to r/r.

on a slightly unrelated subject, I am thinking about putting amber bulbs in the fog lights. anyone else done this? where can you find the bulbs?

On other cars I often use the fogs as driving lights, but these truly are fogs - I only use them in bad weather. would be nice to have the amber lights like the fogs on the older Mercedes.
