Intermittent Misfire

Folks,

I have this intermittent misfire on my 97 e320. I replaced the spark plugs, and all three coils to no avail. When the engine is cold, the engine runs fine but as soon as it reached 80 degress temp or more, the engine will start misfiring.
I thought for sure the coils are bad since it only happens when the engine is hot. I didn't replace the spark plug wires yet thinking if the wires are bad, then it should misfire all the time, not intermittent. There are some days like today, I drove to work about 35 miles and the car didn't misfire once. On my way home (8 hours later) however, the car started mis-firing again after only driving for 15 minutes. I usually pull over, shut the engine off to let the engine cool down, the car starts right away, it will idle and runs fine for a few miles and will start missing again. Does anyone have any idea what the problem might be?

Thanks in advance.
Tom

MAF is my bet

I'd say swap the MAF. It's such a common part to go. Just be happy it's not an E55 - $1,200!

Put a set of wires in it. Heat does affect whether or not they will misfire sometimes. Try that and see how it goes....
