Went to install Virginia plates on our "new" 2002 4Matic Wagon (just bought in Georgia) - imagine my surprise when I walked to the front, screwdriver in hand, to find ... no plate, bracket ... nada!
This is not common thing, so most of the aftermarket guys don't have in the catalogs ... does anyone know the part number and/or have been through this before and can recommend something other than a visit to the dealership - I get scared every time I got there .....
Unfortunately, unless you want to custom-make something, you'll have to get it from the dealer or a wrecking yard. I know what you mean about going to the dealer, though, so if you want there are lots whose parts departments do business by phone or the internet. Just call 'em up, order it, give them the credit card number and wait for the UPS van.
Take care and enjoy the fully-licensed ride,
Greg

what! most people DON'T want a front license plate cause it "ruins" the look of the car! Unless your state requires one then you have to do what you have to do in order to not get fined. Here in Cali we are required to have both and I know lots of people get caught without one. Although lots of cars don't come with a holder from the dealer...for example..I've never seen a Corvette with one and cops don't harrass them either..so unfair!
There was a class action law suit against (one) MB dealer for not installing the front license holder. The case was settled. Several months ago, I received a notice (from MB) in the mail saying that I can go to my dealership for a free installation. I lost the paper because it's useless for me; my W210 has the front license plate holder.
It should be a free installation for you. Go talk to the dealership.
Thanks to all .... Cerritos, don't think they would be interested in buying me one since it has gone through three owners and was purchased at a Lexus dealer out of state - and, in a state that does not require a front plate.
Virginia is anal about everything - especially cars and licensing and toll roads and taxes and traffic ...
Have ordered from Phil on MercedesShop.com (Fastlane) who has relationship with dealer - about 30% less than local dealer and will come painted - local dealer's supposed wasn't and would need to be. Still pretty awful - $110 from Phil and $140 local dealer.
