How much is a usual charge for battery replacement from the dealer?
It largely depends on where you are. Typically if it dies you just call 1800 for merc and they'll bring you one and replace it at no extra charge. That seems to be in the $150 range. Translated that is 1-800-367-6372.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

My battery is not dead yet but I can feel it is time. So, I was going to be pro-active and change the battery before it dies on my on dready snow storm in the middle of nowhere.
I just had my 8-years old battery pulling a number on me.
After sitting for 3 weeks, the wagon started OK and after driving for 1 mile I left the heat recirculating system on.
On the return the engine wouldn't turn over. Unlike in older cars, where you could hear the starter turning slower and slower, in those car with voltage below minimum the computer will not allow the starter to engage.
Means no warning before you are strangled.
I recharged the battery and it runs OK right now. Having 2 cars I am not using it as a daily driver, but the battery is on my short list.
gregs210 is right... it should run anywhere from $130 -$150 depending on the dealer. Last year my battery went dead and I had Mercedes roadside come to my house and install the new battery for $130. No charge for labor, but I'm sure it's built into the price of the battery somewhere in there.

I think that is probably a good idea - an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. I have not had M-B battery issues yet, but the ones on my Plymouth have always died without warning. I think I have now had it towed 4 times for this reason.
I don't know how accurate your feelings are, but there is certainly something called a 6th sense that has helped me in the past. Have you tried taking it somewhere to have the battery tested, just for a 2nd opinion? Some place like AutoZone would probably do it for free. However, if I were you I'd take it to a dealer since you are asking about dealer prices anyway. I don't think they are out of line.
Good luck!

iirc the original battery which lasts a long time is made by varta, but the oem replacements sold in the US are made by johnson controls. these dont last as long. you'd be fine w/ oem, or with other batteries such as interstate

how about the batteries that are sold at autozone or even wal-mart. they were like $55-60, and came with a 7 year warranty. the brand was duralast, and the part # i think was 48-DL. and i think they install the battery for free at autozone. has anyone ever tried those? are they junk?
For under the seat installation in 210 you need a battery with venting tube, that goes under the car. That lowers your choices drastically. I love those $49 batteries with 100 months guarantee at Costo too.
Some people install Optima batteries, but I heard that even they suppose to work in any position, fitting them sideways spits something.
I also doubt long life of Optimas.
I am going to call 1 800 FOR MERC and go with what they have.
