thanx kajtek1. what you are saying makes sense. fortunatelly my battery is fine, i just checked it a couple of months ago when i got an oil change. but when i will need it to be changed, i will definitely call mercedes to change it.
i was also reading some other postings regarding the batteries, and it seemed like a lot of people were adding distilled water to their batteris, even though they were maintanance free. is that gonna increase the battery life in years, or just a couple of months?
I would measure the battery and order an Odyssey battery. Simply said, they cost the same as a factory MB Battery but are the best battery you can buy in US
I just bought one from autozone with a 7years warrenty. 48-DL it's only 99.00 and 10.00 core charge. It's working great ever since 2 weeks ago. Plus the old battery I brought over to a mercedes only shop to have it tested and they told me to replace it because it was weak and already time to replace. But if your battery is fine you shouldn't worry the car recharges the battery everytime you run it.
Called MB roadside assistance to my 99 wagon yesterday. They come in about 1 HR (I told them I am at home and there is no real rush), replaced the battery, took the old one, reset radio, windows, sunroof and did the wheel to the end thing (I know it resets something, but don't remember what),
We even chat about the cars and I got some additional advice.
Cost of the battery $168 (everything is expensive in CA).
Still a good deal.
Original 8-years old battery was made in Germany. Exact replacement is made in Spain. Hopefully will last 8 years as well, although 2-years warranty is disappointing

My battery was dead yesterday after lunch in a moderate snowstorm and temps near zero. Got a jump start and discovered that the low voltage had disabled ABS and ESP. The short drive to the shop in the snow was a bit of an adventure. I'm amazed at how much I have become reliant on the electronics in bad weather. It was fun to practice the old drifting skills, though.
My indy replaced mine with an OEM battery yesterday for $140. ABS/ESP came right back. Service manager strongly recommended the M-B battery over others he has available.
He used to work in a stealership for many years and confirmed that they will do the roadside assist battery for any Benz any year any owner. Not sure about the mileage, though. Call the number and they can give you guidance.
Does the car have to be under warranty in order for MB roadside assistance to install a battery for about $150?
The closest dealer to me is a good 75 miles away so just that milegae could cost a bunch.
My understanding is that they do it no matter what year or warranty issue. Kaj's is a 99, no warranty there.
Roadside assist is not dealer-dependent, so they're probably closer than your dealer.
Take care and enjoy the ride,
Greg

It was my understanding that the local dealers take turns doing this. If there is not one near you, I'd say that is when the indy wrecker services take over.

I called MB roadside service this morning at 6am. Local dealer called back within 10 min. . I guess service manager or senior mechanic gets called at home if shop is not open for business , yet. Two options...will jump start for free and I can drive to dealship and have new battery installed...or can install at my house..but will be charged time and a half. I opted to have the car " jumped" and I drive it to dealership.....about 2 miles away. Dealer rep arrived just after 8 am. Dealer checked condition of battery at dealership..failed test and replaced original battery with a Silver Calcium B . Cost of battery..$153.60 plus tax $12.67.....plus Labor $76.50....Grand Total....$242.77. All controls reset...radio, sunroof, seats , headrest etc. and washed car and cleaned interior. I guess I got a very expensive car wash and clean interior for $ 76.50
