Foggy Mirror

My drivers side door mirror became foggy. I am wondering will I be able to change just the actual mirror. All other functions work fine, or does the whole unit have to be changed. Any hints on getting the glass out, or where to purchase a new piece.
Thanks, donald

if it's foggy, it could be that the heater isn't working correctly? if you're in NJ i'm sure it's pretty cold there right now as it is here in boston...the 2001 e320 came standard with heated mirrors so you may want to have someone check it out who can diagnose the problem - whether it's the heating element, a fuse, or the glass itself.

Thanks for the response . . . it is happening on my '97 . . . it seems to be like two colors, top part, about 1'' looks ok the rest is like a yellow color, you can see object through it, but is very distracting.
I like your flag!

thanks donald! forza italia!

you know i saw this type of problem on an audi a8 i was looking at...so it's likely it's not your heated element if you even have heated mirrors; probably just the glass alone needs to be replaced...maybe look on bmaparts.com or autohausaz.com to see if they sell just the glass?

I saw a pre-owned Benz at a dealer and the inside rearview mirror had yellowed badly. Since both the inside mirror, and the driver's side mirror have the auto-dimming function, I think we are talking about the same problem (after time, whatever it does to dim itself somehow goes bad). I therefore agree with fju2112, and I'd try to just replace the glass part of the mirror. Good luck!

sempre forza ! !

I looked through those sites, they're pretty good, I will keep them for reference, but I don't think I will be able to buy just the mirror.

thanks, donald

Yes Donald, the 2001 E320 is a nice car isn't it? I'd rather have a 2002 E430, but I haven't found one in as good a condition (or with as many options) as mine has now.

Hi Musikmann,

I have a '97 E320 but my passenger side mirror seems to have the auto dimming as it has a slightly bluish tinge however my driver side mirror has no tinge at all. What are yours like?

Cheers
