Welcome to the forum, but I'm sorry it was a problem that brought you here (you're not the first!)
I have the same buttons to the left of the display as you do, so I don't understand Len's answer either. There is apparently a trick to re-setting the display. Maybe you can accomplish what you need by pressing the R button twice (?)
The only thing I know the R button does, is if you hold it down steady for a couple of seconds, it re-sets the trip odometer.

yeah, my happiness of buying the car quickly wore off when I discovered multiple problems.
I have tried pushing the r button a few times and it doesn't seem to help the problem.

What does the display do when you press the other buttons (the ones that look like 2 pages overlapping each other)?
they cycle through the menus just fine (except the audio, that doesn't show up at all)
I get Nav ready, Telephone ready, overall mileage, settings, and miles from start.

I hope someone sees this that can help you. You should see Audio Off, or the radio station frequency if the radio is on (I guess you knew that though). This baffles me too. You might have been right about the dealer reprogramming it, but I don't understand why that would just happen without your changing the settings unless you are experiencing what some people call electrical "gremlins".
It doesn't seem like the up and down arrow buttons would go bad at the same time either. Maybe it's a bad fuse, connection, or relay somewhere?
As far as I can remember, my operator's guide has very little, if any, trouble-shooting in it. It seems like with 300+ pages as it is, they could have included a little of that.

I know the up and down buttons work, because it will cycle through the settings pages, and between the "miles since reset" and "miles since start".
I just don't know why some things show up and others dont.
I already looked at the fuses for the multifunction steering wheel and the display.
Unless there is some sort of communication error between the fss, the oil level, and the audio with the display, but that should just read as an "audio off" situation I would think.

Right about the buttons (doh) I forgot you said that. I forgot about the Check Oil Level thing too, or I didn't realize youy couldn't see that either. The communication error explanation sounds as logical as anything I might come up with.
I tried the benzworld search function on Audio & Telematics for "display malfunction" and nothing showed up there. I'll try a couple of other forums to see what comes up.
