Amazing Machine
I was just in the garage wiping the engine down and looking and around for any issues and I have to say, out of all of the cars that I have ever owned, the E430 is an engineering piece of art. The car is built like a tank.
Past cars
BMW 740 il
Infiniti J30t
Lexus GS 400
Toyota Supra
Nissan Maxima
Volvo S70
Nissan 300Z
Acura Integra GS-R

Agreeing with you 100% and I still want an E430 again! I'd rather have an E500 but the affordable ones (2003) I was told are junk, and I can't afford any of the newer ones I've seen. My next M=B is probably going to be a 2001 S430, but the salesman has to get a "domino deal" together between 3 people who want something a little nicer.
A guy with an S550 wants an S600
Another guy has the S430 and wants the S550
Lowly me, with the E320 wants the S430
Sheesh!

We have real-life experience that ML with 163 body is real tank. My wife involved in it in dead center of 5 cars pileup drove it home and the only heavy metal damage was rear bumper reinforcement and front brush guard.
I've seen on this forum pictures of rear-ended 210 and although passenger cage didn't collapse, the car definitelly wasn't salvageable.
Still love mine 210 wagon for positive driving control, comfort and economy.
Have you ever owned an American car?
What a list.
Your comments make the rest of us aspire for bigger things.
Musikmann,
Now you have me worried. I just started looking online for an E500 for a brother. I was leaning towards a 2003 model. I guess I should read more about it.

Lol
I did own one American car. I had a 1981 Cutlass Supreme Brougham. That is where I learned how to work on cars. A collage student + American car = DIY , simple math.

So was I Gyesi (looking online) and they look good from that perspective. I also started a thread called W210 -> W211 on the W211 sub-forum. You might have a look there, not at my thread necessarily because it didn't generate many replies, but just to read what problems those owners have.
What changed my mind was a master tech/shop foreman who really trashed the early 211s.
