any help with this would be most appreciated, my drivers side rear window came off the track the motor still works the glass just falls inside the door, sometimes it goes up when i use the button to make it go down, i tried to pull the panel off the door but was afraid of really screwing it up any ideas most welcome, thanks
Tradesman, go to the top of this section (W210) and you'll see a link for "DIY Projects". Open this...the procedure is all laid out. The same thing happenned to my 97 E300. Rear passenger goor...hadly ever used. Rolling it down, and BAM (loud noise)...regulator breaks. Went to the parts dept at stealership (I have friends there and this was a great help) and my buddy there looked up the regulator and said the regulator was not available by itself---had to buy both the regulator and the motor. He went to the shelf and pulled the part along with just the regulator for a 1996 car and we compared them on the counter. Using my 97 motor (which was fine) with the 96 regulator would work fine with the exception of (if I remember correctly) one mounting bolt between the motor and the regulator wouldn't line up and therefore wouldn't be used. I took the chance and bought the 96 reg for $98 (210-730-15-46) and saved myself at least $125. He threw in 4-5 steel rivits and off I went. Unfortunately, I didn't have the DIY piece at the time so went about it slowly and logically. It went fine...nothing broken, and it's still working today. Are the article says, drilling out the rivits (and I wouldn't have thought that) is a royal PIA. Have good bits and a Dremel style electric tool was helpful with the small rivit edges that just wouldn't break loose. Hope this helps. Keep us informed. You Can do it!
Can't buy the regulator by itself...hmmm...I think i heard that before...like trying to replace the blower motor regulator on the same car...seems MB changed and made the regulator no longer available...wanted me to buy the "new style" regulator AND new blower motor. Tood a chance and got a blower motor regulator out of a salvaged car...still working to this day...about 2 years as well.
