My friend just called saying that his fuel tank keeps on collapsing (as in it's being sucked). This is the second time it has happened. The first time, he changed his fuel tank, the filler neck, evap system etc. This was about two months ago. He has a 1996 E320.
The thing that comes to mind is that the vents are not working. Question is: Where are the other vents? The last time it happened, the mechanic, according to my friend, checked the vents. Are there any other vents to consider?
The other thing is: Are we on the right track? Are the vents to blame... or is there another reason? Frankly, this is the first time I've heard of Mercedes fuel tanks collapsing.
I would appreciate any ideas. My friend is asking me to accompany him to the mechanic this afternoon. It would be nice if I can get ideas by then.
i had this happen to me at work on a 2005 audi a6(im a technician at an audi dealership)it wound up being the filter for the leak detection pump,it was restricting the evap system causing the tank to collapse.
