I have a '97 E420 and i just put 19 inch brabus rims onto my car. I've balanced and rotated it, but it still seems to vibrate at around 40-55 mph. someone suggested a "speed balance". what exactly what should i do to fix this problem? it's annoying when the steering wheel vibrates continuously.
Assuming these are genuine Brabus wheels (and not knockoffs) then there shouldn't be anything inherently wrong with them.
Call around and find a quality tire/performance place that does ROAD FORCE balancing; those are your buzzwords. It will cost you, perhaps $20 a tire, but that is pretty much required when you venture into 18" low profile and beyond.
Take care and enjoy smoothing out the ride,
Greg

i know you got them balanced and rotated...but did you get a wheel allignment...cause when u put on new rims...u should definetely get it...that was my issues...that solved the problem...cause i had shaking of steering at higher speeds..for few people wheel allignment has been the issue and i doubt something is wrong with your wheels ..good luck
by the way how do the 19 inch fit...do u hear any rubbing or did u have to get spacers...and do u have any suspension or anything like that..and whats ur tire size...let me know thanks cause i was always interested in putting 19's
There are a couple of things - which sound stupid or basic - that you can do first to see if it solves the problem before moving to major...
You have a "resonance" - and generally this is caused by some basic things on a MB, and not necesaarily related to major suspension components.
You try the basic stuff first, then only move on to the major stuff if the simple stuff doesn't work:
a) go to your MB dealer and pick up a assortment of MB wheel weights which are longer and more evenly weighted than most US wheel weights. I have seen US weights fuck up the balance of a MB wheel and cause resonance..
b) take the car back to who ever did the mounting and install and tell them you have a problem.
c) have them pull the wheels off, strip off the old weights, and re-balance using the MB wheel weights (and have them take a better look at the balance too).
d) if you have some funky billet type stem caps - then have those pulled off (you can save them) and replace with plastic for now
e) the wheel bolts need to be re-installed only with hand wrench only, and hand torgue wrench, and must be torgued ONLY in the the order/pattern of tighening shown in any decent manual.
The use of a airtool for retorquing, and/or not using the cross-pattern can fuck you up and cause a resonance vibration
Only after you go thru these basic steps - and they don't work - then have the shop swap your rear wheels/tires back to the front ---
If after these basic steps your resonance doesn't go away - then get a alignment - then after that and it's still there try to find a on-car speed balancing shop (sometimes a truck shop)...
I have seen a lot of people waste a lot of money replacing components, and actually it wasn't the the big shit at all, but it was small shit...
