Good day or evening depending on when your reading this. I am a very happy and excited new member. I just purchased a 1998 W210 all records, and original books Opal Black 129 with 152,000 miles, with light tan Interior. I am very very happy with it. My first lux vehicle. I have one realy simple question that has been bugging me ever since I've did this. I some how, during the course of detailing my car, turned off the feature where the interior lights come on when I open my door and turn off when I start the car, and also when I use the remote, it use to turn off after 20 seconds including the head lights. Now niether work, I have to manualy turn on and off. I am so confused. On another helpful forum a member said I have a switch in a wrong position, but did not tell me which switch and how to determin this. Any help on this would be grate, because I think its safer to have the lights auto on and off at night or early am in the morning, ok thank you. PS, man ya'll have some realy sweet rides, I've only had this vehicle for 32 days but I have had so many 2000 to 2002 LS 430 speed up next to me......LOL. My previous car was a 2001 Dodge "Black Hole Deman Pit" Intrepid.......Ok drive safe and keep her clean

We have slightly different cars, but I think the only interior light control switches are above the rearview mirror. When I turn my car off without turning off the headlights, there is a beeping sound, so I think that is supposed to be a manual manuever. At night, or I think whenever you have the headlights on, locking the car with the remote should leave the smaller headlights on for as you said, about 20 seconds. In some models, I think I read here that the foglights also are on for that length of time, but mine does not do that. I have never heard of any way you can disable that feature, but there is probably a way (?)
Sorry this is a bit vague, but all of your answers should be in your owner's manual. If you don't have one, there are lots of those available for sale on eBay, and with some cars, you can view it as an Adobe file on the MBUSA.com website.

Thank you Musikmann. I consider myself lucky enough to have had all the original manuals, with leather casing. I read the manual and it goes into very little detail. It address functionality. Unfortunately it said nothing on turning back on the mode. Yes, before I did what ever I did, the Headlights, Fog lights and Interior dome lights all work at the same time, turning on and off after 20 seconds, not niether the dome lights or exterior lights auto on/off. I was detailing my car and left the doors open for interior cleaning, than I realized niether worked the same, but they do work which is good, but I must now manual turn on/off, which leads me to believe I pressed something during the interior detailing. But thank you for your information. Nice car. I am very impressed with the MB world and how dedicated most are about helping others.
Welcome to the forums-- Glad to hear you're enjoying your new car...
I think your right to think that you pressed something to change how the interior lights come on. It's likely one of the buttons adjacent to the sunroof control, if memory serves me right, both buttons need to be in their "middle" detent position for things to function normally.
As for the fog and parking lights, they only come on when you've been driving with them on, and shut the door after getting out of the car.

That sounds logical. Maybe when you had the doors opened for the detail, you changed the switch position to OFF (so as to not run down the battery) and then forgot that you did that. Just a guess there, but I have done similar things.
Welcome to the forum and to the wonderful world of MB ownership too!
WOW, see thats what I am talking about. Thank you. I think thats it. I have to look alot closer to see what position thier in. I was there for an hour one day changing the lights. I think that will be it, but it will take me time to find out. I hope it works. If any one can at least help me determin the button positions that would be cool, but if not that info was great and I hadnt thaught of that. Now, on to something new that I noticed in the past couple of weeks. I get alot of wind after 65 mph, its wierd because its only after 65 mph and its coming from the roof some where. Its kinda annoying, but I still feel blessed to own a nice vehicle, but did anyone else have this prob? thank you
You might be right, because this is something that just started, I will look over all these things when I get home today. Thank you alot for your information its all very helpful
First I must say, If this forum was a lady I would take her to dinner for how smart she is...LOL.....OK, It all worked, while driving I pressed both dome buttons at the same time, by the time I got out the car, the head lights and interior dome lights turned on and then off in 10-15 secs, IT WORKED. Then I ran my hand around the front of the sunroof groove and closed it, feeling for possible air pockets, I dont know what I did but it worked, it was/is that area where the rubber is, and I had no noise even at 80 mph. The funny thing is, I kinda got used to the noice letting me know I was doing 65..LOL..the way I found it worked was I hit 80 mph and realized I wasnt hearing noise, I may need to replace the rubber workings around the sunroof. But in the end this forum saved me money and time, THANK YOU Musikmann and OBX884.
