I remember heater cables hanging at the radiators on my 123 and 124 models in the past, but in 20 years in California never used them.
Now, when I could use the heater, the 210 doesn't have one. Or I just can't find it?
Thats funny... I had a 1995 124 E 300 Diesel which had no block heater. The other day I was changing my oil in my newer 1996 E300 Diesel and I found the cord just behind the opening portion of the bumper grill - it has one and I think it is an option. If yours has one it is there, behind the passenger side lower opening bumper cover.
I bet it's there. Look at the right rear of the engine, below the exhaust manifold. The heater should be installed in the block.
The car didn't ship with a cord, however. I got one from the local dealer for about $75.
Thanks. Took a mirror to see it behind exhaust pipe.
Didn't think special-ordering the cable would make lot of sense, since I am not planning to use the cord after this week EVER.
So looking thru all the crap I have in my garage I saw old cable from electric blanket that had a plug with 2 rounded holes like those on the heater. Slight plug modification and "HOUSTON, we have a contact".
30 ohms makes about 500W. Not very much, but should help a lot with defrosting the car on first 1/2 mile. I have a remote switch in my carport (Christmas lights), so I think I start the heater when I get up. By the time I wash up, eat the breakfast and check the net, it should give it 1HR of heating.
Well, for the first time last night when I got home I plugged in my block heater and this morning before I started the engine I popped the hood and the top of the engine was indeed warm - it was 17 degrees last night.
